A study report of the Journal of the American College of Cardiology states that women who eat diets that are high in processed carbohydrates can put themselves at increased risk of heart disease. The Dutch researchers looked at almost 16,000 Dutch women over a long period of nine years. The women were all between the years of 49 and 70 at the start of the study and none of them had previously reported heart problems of any kind.

After the nine year period, 566 of the women taking part had developed some form of cardio illness and 243 of them had suffered from a stroke. The researchers who were extremely thorough in their research adjusted heart disease risk factors like being overweight to make sure that the results were extremely accurate. The researchers said that they could definitely conclude that there was a direct link between the glycemic load and the chances of developing a stroke or heart disease in women.
A type of food that has a high glycemic load is one that is very quickly absorbed into the bloodstream. Many processed carbohydrates have a very ‘high glycemic index’. A few examples of foods that have a high glycemic index are white bread, pastries, drinks high in sugar and other highly manufactured foodstuffs.
There has been much argument in scientific circles about whether your diet should include carbohydrates or not and many nutritionists say that you should keep your carbohydrate intake to a minimum. Expanding on that, it is especially important for the carbohydrates that you do eat are low in salt, sugar and fat. Processed carbohydrates tend to have salt, sugar and fat put into them and these are the things that are bad for you if taken in excess.
At Ukmedix News we like to keep an objective view about diet and nutrition especially in view of the fact that there are so many different diet recommendations put out on the internet. At Ukmedix News we follow simple diet principles as opposed to hard and fast rules about eating. If you keep your calorie content low and you eat a good mix of protein, carbohydrates, fruit and vegetables you should be able to keep yourself in good shape.
