the best evidence that a low calorie diet is good for you comes from Japan

There appear to be many advantages to eating a low calorie diet. A number of studies in different parts of the world have shown that individuals who eat very small amounts tend to have to lower blood pressure, healthier hearts and most significantly they tend to live for considerably longer than people who eat a lot. Researchers also claim that people who eat the small amounts of between 1500 and 1800 calories a day will live longer than people who eat the normal amount of 2500 calories and then burn them off with exercise.

Low Calorie For Long Life

Scientists have done a lot of research regarding low calorie diets with mice and it is always seen that those mice that are left a little bit hungry tend to live for longer than those mice who are allowed to eat more even if they are not overweight. However probably the best evidence that a low calorie diet is good for you comes from the people of Japan who are known to eat far smaller amounts of food than the people in the western world.

In one particular part of Japan namely Okinawa there are more people over the age of 100 years old than in any other part of the world. The people of Okinawa attribute their longevity to eating small portions of healthy food throughout their lives. Their diet consists of a lot of vegetables and rice and very little fat.

In America there is even a society called the Calorie Restriction Society whose members advocate eating around 1,800 calories a day for good health and long life. The Calorie Restriction Society also claims that eating less reduces the chances of you suffering from cancer.

People who follow calorie restricted diets often complain that they feel hungry all the time however they argue that the health benefits are well worth it.  Whatever diet that you follow you should always make sure that you have a good balance of different food types and that you eat a lot of healthy unprocessed food.
