Ukmedix has seen many reports and has asked many of its its patients about their diets and time and time again it appears that diets that involve a group of people who support each other are shown to be effective and long lasting. In fact research has shown that anything that is done together whether it be running, training, working or dieting is likely to work better if you get the support of a friend or a partner in setting goals and targets.
Dieting is something that needs alot of willpower and focus and having someone around to reaffirm your aims and to act as a check on any slackening of willpower really can help. One of the best known diet programs that makes use of this peer pressure is the Weight Watchers Diet Plan. This program uses weekly meetings of dieters who get together and weigh themselves and so that any weight loss is registered by the whole group and you can be congratulated by all of them. There is also the fear that you are letting your peers down and you look a bit useless if you have gained weight in the weekly weighing sessions.
Just knowing that there are people who are suffering the same things as you and being able to talk about the trials and tribulations of dieting with someone who is going through the same thing can really work wonders for will power. Weekly accountability is also great because it means that you can really see if you are achieving real progress in your diet and if you aren't you can change your diet before you put on too much weight.
Some people are blessed with will power and strength to go it alone and they are the lucky ones, but other people know that they wouldn't be able to last the distance unless they had the encouragement that they get from friends and dieting buddies. Going to diet meetings is also good because help and advice can be shared and you are likely to see people who have had the same particular problem as you and they could be good at giving you solutions.
