A new report released by the Insurance Company called Standard Life in the United Kingdom says that UK citizens are drinking too much and this is making them obese. According to their figures the average adult in the United Kingdom is adding more than a whole day’s quota of calories each week from their intake of alcohol.

A male adult should take in about two and a half thousand calories every day and Standard Life says that very are drinking around 3,000 calories every week in alcohol. The United Kingdom has a serious problem with large numbers of people becoming obese and there is no doubt that the heavy drinking culture of British people is partly to blame.
The report also noted that men were the worst offenders drinking nearly 200,000 extra calories every year compared to the figure of 110,000 for women. The researchers also noted that lager is the drink of choice for most men and that women tended to go for glasses of red and white wine.
Lager and beer are the drinks which contain the most calories but women should not be fooled by thinking that drinking a glass of wine has no calories as in fact a glass of wine only has slightly less calories than a pint of beer.
The report also noted that while people are becoming educated about how many calories are present in the food that they eat the majority are largely unaware of the calorie quantity in alcoholic drinks. Over 60 percent of women and just under ¾ of men had no idea about the quantity of calories in the drinks that they regularly consumed.
At Ukmedix News we feel that it would be a good idea if all alcoholic drinks were labelled with the amount of calories in them as this would enable people to choose what to drink more effectively and this could possibly help people who are trying to lose weight to modify the alcohol intake.
