Eating Raw Food

Did you ever think about making raw food an integral part of your diet? Well there are a number of reasons why you should consider doing just that. Raw food is in fact what the body was designed to consume.

It is true that out bodies have got slightly used to eating cooked food these days but the evolutionary structure of our bodies had not yet caught up with the rapid changes in our diet. The human body can't cope with a large amount of fatty burgers from a fast food chain or thick creamy cakes and fizzy soft drinks. Obesity is often the result.

The food that the human body is designed to eat are the naturally grown foods like fruits, vegetables and nuts. For thousands of years the human body got used to this diet and so it has evolved to accomodate it.

If you are selective about the food you eat you may begin to realise that the advantages of a raw food diet are not just healthiness but also due to its delicious taste.

Contrary to what you are probably thinking now eating raw food is not just about dull salads and carrots. Well prepared raw food can be a culinary delight. For example well made smoothies with a good blend of fruit and veg can be delicious and provide a healthy nutritious snack at any point in the day.

Another reason why you should be eating raw food is that all the nutrients stay in the food whereas with some types of cooking like frying the food gets fattier. Processed food and can be full of additives and other chemicals that are not conducive to healthy digestion.

Many of the additives are there as flavour enhancers to diguise the poor quality of the product and the fact that what you are eating is over processed and not at all natural. The most common taste enhancers are monosodium glutamate or MSG, sugar and salt. Fruit and vegetables have naturally occuring salt and sugar in the right quantities

You can get used to eating processed food and soon you forget for example how delicious a good apple or orange can be. It is important to only by good quality fruits and veg as stale because if they are old ot stale they lose their flavours. Small markets are often the best place to buy fruit and veg as there is a high turnover of the foodstuffs and so they are generally fresh.

People who eat a lot of raw food soon begin realise that the food from fast food restaurants is actually disgusting as well as unhealthy.

It is not really feasible to only eat raw food, but for a healthy diet you should set yourself a target of having half of all the food you eat as raw and the other half cooked healthily.
