Exercise Essential For Weight Loss

Ukmedix has learnt of a new study that says that weight loss is better served by increasing your physical activity compared to cutting back on the calorie intake. The research was conducted on monkeys in a research centre in Oregon and the researchers said that the link between the amount of food and weight gain was not very significant and that the monkeys that did the most exercise were the ones that gained only a little weight despite having been given a very high fat diet.
The research program was conducted on eighteen fully grown female monkeys over a 9 month time frame. The monkeys were all put on a very high fat diet designed to mimick the food intake of a diet of a middle aged human. Over the course of the research the amount of food eaten and the body mass as well as body fat were carefully monitored. The physical activity of each monkey was also recorded by using a sophistaicated measuring instrument device called an accelerometer that can be placed around the neck of monkeys.
The conclusions of the research were that while eating alot would eventually have some bearing on the weight gain of an individual monkey, the main cause was however was not the amount of food that was eaten but was more connected to the amount of exercise and activity of the monkeys. This research could change the way that weight loss programs for middle aged men and women are approached and designed.
The weight loss industry in the developed world, especially in America is huge and alot of money goes into research for new weight loss methods. This research adds weight to the arguments that it is the activity of a person that can have the most effect on weight loss and healthy weight maintenance and that provided portion control is restricted and reasonable weight gain will not ensue.
