In what could be a weight loss tool of the future Accenture Tecnology Laboratories have recently launched a digital mirror that can show people what they will end up looking like in the future if they continue to eat badly and to ignore weight loss advice. The company is calling the invention the Persuasive Mirror and it may launch the product commercially if they get a good response to the product.
Despite being called a mirror and looking very simple it is in fact a very complicated piece of computer gadgetry. The device works by using two digital cameras on either side of the flat panel display screen and with the use of video streams coming from the two cameras it can get a good example of the refelection of a person. Then using advanced image processing and other sophisticated software the person's image can be touched up.
The Persuasive Mirror can then be adjusted by the input of certain data. For example if you input the fact that you spent too much time in the harmful rays of the sun then the mirror will adjust your skin colour to reflect this in the image. Many other health inputs can be entered for example the effects of eating too much, exercising too little and even smoking and drug abuse. For people who smoke too much the device could even be used to show what they would look like if they gave up and therefore give them a big incentive to quit the habit.
The makers of the device said that it could be used as a weight loss incentive so that people could really see how they would look if they lost weight and how bad they would look if they carried on gaining weight. The possibilities are endless and it could be fine tuned to cover many different health possibilities and scenarios.
