Recent research is showing that US Citizens as well as eating too much, also drink far too many calories. It is estimated that American adults get more than one fifth of all their calorie intake (more than doubled the recommended amount) from beverages according to Professor Popkin from the University of North Carolina.
What you drink plays a very important part in a weight concious diet and some people can't understand as to why they are not losing weight when they observe their diet rules. It is often because of their high calorie intake in their drinks. Water is the number 1 recommended drink for those who are overweight or obese. Fizzy drinks and other sweet drinks are definitely out and you should also be careful of juices as they often have added sugar which boost the calorie content.
Drinking a lot of water when dieting is beneficial for a number of reason. Not only is the calorie content negliable but the water can induce a feeling of fullness and also keeps cleaning out unhealthy toxins from the body and the digestive system.
The American obesity crisis is becoming more severe each year and money is pouring into research and development programmes for weight loss remedies. The US soft drinks industry is coming under increasing pressure not to market their drinks to children. In some schools fizzy and high calorie drinks are banned. So when you go for a soft drink next time, watch out as you may be piling on the pounds without realising it.
