In what must be the most unusual story to find its way to the Ukmedix newsroom this year, a man is suffering from from a serious weight problem....he can't put on weight!
The man from Idaho in the U.S. is seriously concerned about his weight in that no matter what and how much he eats he can't put on weight and he is doing some serious eating. Mr Chaffee who is of normal height is at present eating nearly seven thousand calories daily, well over twice the normal recommended amount and he is only putting on weight very slowly.
After a prolonged effort, Mr Chaffee can now lay claim to be over 100 pounds in weight and he needs to keep going to his target of 120 pounds. Doctors are baffled by his metabolism and his digestive system that must be the envy of millions of dieters worldwide. Being very thin has its complications as he is undernourished, always cold and lacking in strength. His diet has been formulated by doctors who want him to eat high protein and healthy food to make him grow muscle as well as a little body fat.
Metabolic rates are instrumental in regulating the amount of weight that a person puts on when he eats. Higher metabolic rates are generally found in healthy people who exercise regularly and slow metabolic rates can make people gain alot of weight.
