Ukmedix has learnt of a new survey conducted in the United States that reveals that the vast majority of American citizens are unaware of the link between being obese and getting cancer. While most Americans know that heart disease and being overweight are connected (83%) and over half (57%) are aware of the diabetes danger too, cancer is only connected to obesity by 8% of Americans.
The American Cancer Society that conducted the survey also reported that only 17% knew their BMI score, 39% were aware of their cholesterol level number and 63% knew their blood type. Obesity has become a hot topic of converation in America as the rates are rising all the time and they are becoming a national problem. People always talk about the heart attack chance increasing with obesity but people don't assciate cancer with obesity and this must change according to the ACS.
Obesity is linked to many different types of cancer especially cancer of the colon and other stomach cancers. Obesity also causes hypertension and high blood pressure that puts a big strain on an already overworked heart. Fat people are also more likely to get strokes and have circulation problems. The American Cancer Society said that more action needs to be taken to make people aware of all the diseases amd illnesses associated with obesity and make sure that all the facts and information was available to American citizens.
