Watch Out For Stealth Calories

Written by Jane Tucker | Thursday, 21 May 2009 | There are 0 comments

Probably the most common Stealth Calories are fizzy drinks

The simplest way to look at and understand weight loss and weight gain is to know that your body can only ingest so many calories a day without you putting on weight. Some individuals can consume more calories daily without putting on weight either because they have larger muscles and a fast burning metabolism or because they make it a point to get regular exercise to burn off those extra calories.

Watch Out For Stealth Calories

If you approach a weight loss effort by making sure that in the course of the day you just don’t eat over your calorie threshold you should lose weight. It really can be that simple however many people fail because of what we call at Ukmedix News ‘Stealth Calories’.

There are many things which you might consume throughout the day which you may feel are insignificant to your overall calorie count but in fact will have a big impact in putting you over your daily calorie threshold.

Probably the most common Stealth Calories are fizzy drinks which often contain a huge amount of sugar. Even fruit juices which claim to be 100 percent natural are in fact made from concentrate which has a large amount of sugar in it. The safest thing to drink is always water and while this may be a little bit boring you should get used to it after a few days. Water has numerous other health benefits too.

Stealth Calories often appear in harmless sounding foods such as salads. You should be extremely wary of salads in restaurants and prepackaged salads in supermarkets especially those which come with exotic sounding dressings. Eating salads can often make you feel virtuous but be careful you are not being tricked into eating something with a high calorie content. You may find that having the steak or pasta is in fact the lower calorie option.

Eating in restaurants makes it difficult to judge the calorie content but supermarkets foods are required by law to list the nutritional content and you should read it carefully. Probably the best thing to do is to prepare your own salads at home so that you know exactly what you are eating.

At Ukmedix News we are great believers in doing lots of small things to your daily diet routine so that they add up to having a big impact over time. Even simple things like not having milk and sugar in your coffee can over a certain period make sure that you stay under your daily calorie threshold and thus lose or maintain weight.
