will change the perception that the British people have towards cooking

At last the British government seems to be taking the problem of childhood obesity seriously and is actually beginning to put its money where its mouth is. A new initiative announced by Schools Secretary Ed Balls has set aside money to build special new kitchens in schools which will allow for lessons to teach children about healthy eating and how to cook healthy meals.

UK To Invest In Kitchens And Cooking Lessons For School Children

Over £150 million will be put into the building of the new teaching kitchens and it is likely that children between the ages of that eleven and fourteen will in the future be required compulsorily to take these cooking lessons. It is not expected that the teaching kitchens and cooking lessons will become a part of the curriculum however until the year 2011.

At Ukmedix News we have always stressed the importance of education when it comes to beating obesity. Numerous reports have shown that one of the best ways to get results is to explain to parents and children how to eat healthily. The younger that children are when good eating habits are instilled into them the more likely they are to keep these habits with them for the rest of their lives. Mr Balls also said that these classes would enable children to be able to cook good and nutritious meals cheaply and with basic ingredients which would mean that they would be less likely to rely on fast food and takeaways which are notoriously high in fat as well as full of unhealthy added sugar and salt.

From comparisons of different countries Ukmedix News is aware that the British people do not take such a pride in cooking as many other European nations do. For example practically all Italian children especially girls know how to cook and understand the basic rudimentary principles of preparing a simple meal. It is hoped that this new initiative from the British government will change the perception that the British people have towards cooking and food.
