Another survey has shown exactly how much fatter the British people have become and the results are causing raised eyebrows in medical circles. For example one of the statistics revealed that between the years 1986 and 2000 the average UK man put on over one stone in weight!

The research which was published by Oxford University makes clear that not only are men consuming more calories but they are also burning less of them too with a reduction in exercise habits. The study which also looked at women noted that their average weight gain increased by 5.4kg or 12lb over the same time and that for women the weight increase was entirely due to increased food consumption.
Probably the most shocking statistic is that now 25 percent of UK men are classified as obese with a BMI of 30 plus compared to only seven percent back in 1986. As it is well known that obesity is a major cause of heart disease, strokes, cancer and strokes it is likely that the financial burden that the National Health Service will have to bear for years to come is going to be huge.
The research which was led by Dr Peter Scarborough noted that one of the problems in the UK was that far more men now sit at their desks all day and do not burn off calories in the course of their work.
Ms. Tam Fry speaking on behalf of the National Obesity Forum said that unless more was to be done the obesity problem would only get worse. In fact she reiterated what we have been arguing at Ukmedix News for years which is that unless government initiatives are backed up with clear and decisive legislation to prevent the huge amounts of fat, salt and sugar which is being piled onto everyday foodstuffs there is very little hope for the next generation of children to live as long as their parents.
This issue is not about the freedom to eat what you want because what we're talking about is children who are being bombarded with advertising for very unhealthy foodstuffs which they become addicted to as they get older. Children who are obese find it extremely difficult to change their eating habits as they get older and normally end up with weight problems and all its associated illnesses and problems until they die.
