Using the ‘Pistachio Principle’ could make a big difference your life and prevent you from overeating and putting on weight. This very simple idea is in fact a very clever one and involves the theory that food which is time intensive to consume is less likely to make you put on weight. It works like this! When eating pistachio nuts it takes time to break open shells and therefore over for example a ten minute period somebody faced with unshelled pistachio nuts will eat less than someone who has a bowl of shelled pistachio nuts to eat.

Professor James Painter from the School of Family and Consumer Sciences based at Eastern Illinois University has conducted a number of studies with the pistachio nuts and he saw that those people who ate the shelled nuts ate twice as much as those eating the unshelled nuts but both groups claimed to be full up.
Ukmedix News has written on a number of occasions about the importance of eating slowly in order to reduce the amount of calories that you consume. Because your stomach takes time to signal to your brain that you are full up it is better to eat slowly so that you don’t over eat.
You should try and apply the Pistachio Principle to every single meal that you have. Cutting up food in smaller pieces and chewing for longer will make you feel full up before the meal finishes and therefore prevent you from eating more.
One other tip which comes from Ukmedix News is to use a small fork when eating so that you don’t put large amounts into your mouth. This is particularly effective when eating spaghetti or other types of pasta and rice. Using chopsticks when eating Chinese food is another good idea to slow down your eating. In fact people who eat slowly tend to savour the flavours and enjoy the food much more.
