Despite the fact that many countries in the European Union such as Switzerland and Denmark have completely banned the use of hydrogenated vegetable oils (trans fats) in restaurant cooking, the UK still has thousands of restaurants cooking away using this potentially lethal additive.

According to some estimates trans fats in fast food could be responsible for around 7,000 deaths every year in the UK and yet the average consumer is completely unaware of the difference between trans fats and healthier types of fat found in natural products like olive oil. Even if you read the labels of many food products the information is misleading about what type of fat the product contains.
Did you know for example that the World Health Organization has actually declared that trans fats are toxic yet despite this they often appear on ingredient labels as a much more harmless sounding HVO's or hydrogenated vegetable oils which the average consumer may think is a healthy type of fat because they think it contains hydrogen and vegetables. Sometimes hydrogenated fats are referred to as shortened fats or partially hydrogenated making the whole thing even more misleading.
The point is trans fat is extremely bad for you and clogs up your arteries more than any other type of fat. It is responsible for raising your cholesterol level to unhealthy levels and has absolutely no nutritional value.
You should think trans fats as artery blocking substances which could prevent the easy flow of blood through your heart ultimately leading to a heart attack or stroke. Obviously it would be almost impossible not to consume any trans fat but you should be aware that when you go to a fast food restaurant you are loading yourself up with rubbish which your body will have a problem dealing with.
Trans fat has been compared to stubborn candle wax in your arteries and that is definitely something you don't want!
