If you’re thinking of having children and you have a tendency to be obese is in your family the time to start planning is right now! A new study has highlighted that there is a link between higher rates of childhood obesity and heavier pregnancy weights of the mothers. The study also showed that those mothers who became diabetic when they were pregnant had a significantly greater chance of having children with weight problems by the time they reached the age of eleven.

The research which was done by the Technical University of Munich in Germany highlighted the importance of getting children off to a good start so that it would lessen the chances of future obesity and all of its related health complications.
Other studies we have seen at Ukmedix News show that eating habits are formed when extremely young and that there are very difficult to break out of. Any child who reaches its teenage years with a weight problem is likely to struggle with it for the rest of its life. Some children do manage to break the cycle and lose weight as they get older but they are in the minority and they tend to be very determined and focused.
Overweight parents should make an extra effort to get their children to eat healthily when they are growing up so that they don’t inherit their bad eating habits. This is obviously extremely difficult because children tend to follow the example of the parents and if they see them eating a lot of unhealthy food it will be difficult to for them not to follow suit.
This research which was published in the medical journal Diabetes Care adds weight to the evidence that the way to deal with the obesity crises in both America and the United Kingdom is to nip it in the bud and focus on getting children healthy rather than trying to change the eating habits of the older generation who are too set in their ways.
