The Potato Diet...Hmmmm

lots of vitamin C, vitamin B6 and plenty of fibre

Why is it that whenever a little bit of research related to weight loss or diets comes forward that media people sensationalise it and claim that they have discovered the obesity cure!

the potato diet...hmmmm

Just recently for example a study done in America claims that the humble potato does not make you put on weight and can actually lower blood pressure. This is all very well and good but a number of newspapers have picked up this story and now claim that the potato is the new superfood and that people need to follow what they call The Potato Diet.

If you use your common sense it is pretty obvious that a potato or two can do you no harm and is in fact good for you because it is a natural vegetable. Potatoes have lots of vitamin C, vitamin B6 and plenty of fibre and so including them in your diet is not a bad thing provided that you do not fry them to make chips or cover them with butter and other fatty foods.

You should also know that there are lots of different types of potatoes such as red potatoes, russet potatoes, fingerling potatoes and sweet potatoes all of which are good for you, but you must not rely on them to make you lose weight and like anything else should be consumed in moderation.

There is so much weight loss rubbish written by journalists trying to get people to read their sensationalist drivel. The fact that a potato is good for you is not news and anyone with half a brain knows that. The problem is that unfortunately many overweight and obese people are desperate for quick fix remedies to their long term weight problems and when they read something like this they convince themselves that because they ate a potato with their huge calorie laden meal they somehow have done something positive for their weight.

Whatever next? Is some celebrity going to endorse the potato diet to convince even more gullible and frankly pretty dumb people that potatoes are the answer to the problem?
