The Mediterranean diet pill is called Ateronon

The Mediterranean diet which has proven time and time again to be one of the most effective ways of keeping your heart healthy has been given further importance by scientists who have developed a pill which they say mimics its benefits. The Mediterranean diet pill which is called Ateronon is said to provide the antioxidants which protect the human heart from damage.

The Mediterranean Diet A Daily Pill

Researchers on both sides of the Atlantic are busy conducting clinical trials to see exactly how effective the Ateronon pills are and whether they should be prescribed on a larger scale. Research projects are taking place at Harvard Medical School and Cambridge University as well as at other institutions in Finland and in Italy. All of the research projects will involve placebo tablets been given to half of the participants so that the results have clinical integrity.

The principal active ingredient of Ateronon is the compound lycopene which is an antioxidant found in tomatoes. Lycopene is said to prevent the breakdown of fat in the bloodstream which causes unhealthy cholesterol and which ultimately leads to fatty deposits forming in arteries. By mixing the lycopene compound along with other compounds they have made it easier to absorb and thus possibly even more effective than eating tomatoes on a regular basis and following Mediterranean diet.

It has always baffled scientists that the Mediterranean people who consume plenty of fat have good hearts. The secret however is that the Mediterranean diet consists of a lot of natural fat, a big variety of fruits and vegetables and a balance of every single food type.

The Mediterranean diet is favoured not only for its health properties but also because it is such a tasty, varied and fun diet to follow. If your problem with maintaining a healthy diet is that you enjoy eating a lot and find watching your weight and health boring you should switch to a Mediterranean diet which has a bigger variety and a better than most other eating plans.
