The experimental new weight loss drug Tesofensine from the Dutch pharmaceutical company Neurosearch is being eagerly awaited by the weight loss industry who are pinning their hopes on this revolutionary new medicine.

Tesofensine Making Waves In Scientific Circles

Tesofensine which was originally developed to treat Alzheimer's and Parkinson's works by acting as a reuptake inhibitor of the neurotransmitters dopamine, noradrenaline and serotonin. It is also seen to indirectly affect levels of acetylcholine in the brain using a dopaminergic mechanism. In simple language this means that the drug has an effect on some of the brain mechanisms which control appetite and thus it makes you feel full up on less food.

Tesofensine as well as being an appetite suppressant like Reductil is also said to have a number of other positive metabolic effects. Researchers say that the drug speeds up the rate of fat oxidation by fifteen percent and reduces the amount of fat tissue. They also commented that Tesofensine increased the levels of adiponectin and improved the insulin sensitivity of study participants which could help men and women suffering from Type two diabetes.

The last metabolic effect that they noticed was that Tesofensine actually increased the expenditure of energy of study participants when they were resting. It was estimated that the night time energy expenditure increased by six percent when compared to the placebo group in clinical testing.

The research on the Tesofensine drug continues and has moved to the Phase three clinical testing stage. Neurosearch who are developing the drug remain optimistic about getting full approval from both the European Medicines Agency and also the Food & Drug Administration in the United States.

Ukmedix News will be keeping its readers updated on any new developments that are reported concerning the new Tesofensine weight loss drug.
