Written by Stuart Stevens | Thursday, 29 May 2008

researchers claim that results were twice as good as any other weight loss drug

The big news in the world of weight loss is that in the next few years a new drug may be on the market which promises easy weight loss with a minimum amount of effort. We have heard this one before, but scientists say that it is possible that the new drug tesofensine really could be the weight loss drug of the future.

Tesofensine Could Be Weight Loss Drug Of The Future

Professor Astrup who hails from the University of Copenhagen claims that tesofensine is extremely effective and could be a commercial blockbuster in the future.  The company who is developing the drug and providing the finance for the research is NeuroSearch and Professor Astrup declared the fact that he has shares in the company.

The drug targets the area of the brain which controls appetite, (like the weight loss drug Acomplia) but works in a different way by making the person who uses it feel very full up almost instantly after beginning to eat a meal. NeuroSearch say that the drug could be available to overweight and obese people in the next three years after testing and trials are undertaken. The drug is not without its own side effects as there have been reports of nausea, diarrhea, insomnia, constipation and mood swings. More worryingly many users reported an increased cardio rate with the use of tesofensine.

At present 200 obese men and women have taken part in trials which included the inclusion of a placebo pill and the researchers claim that the results were twice as good as any other weight loss medication on the market today when used over a six month trial period.

This weight loss drug at a glance sounds interesting and positive however at Ukmedix News we have seen many a hyped up releases of information regarding new weight loss drugs which invariably come to nothing. Developing a weight loss drug involves millions of pounds and years and years of research and most of the projects fall by the wayside after proper cimincal testing. Nevertheless at Ukmedix News we shall be looking for more information on the tesofensine drug and let our readers know the outcome.
