We often talk about the obesity cost to nations in terms of lost productivity, higher rates of absence from work and the treatment of obesity related disease but sometimes the simple act of being very overweight can have direct financial implications on the provision of basic services.

For example the government of Victoria in Australia has recently had to spend £650,000 on special larger and stronger ambulances in order to ferry around patients who weigh more than 160 kilos. It was made known that standard ambulances cannot cope with men and women who weigh more than this. The special ambulances which are custom made by Mercedes Benz will be able to cope with patients weighing up to 350 kilos.
The problem is not just that the smaller ambulances were not able to transport the heavy individuals but that there was a significant danger to hospital and ambulance staff from the huge weight of these people. These new ambulances will have a special winches and pulleys which will mean that the risk of injury to staff is significantly lessened.
The Australian people previously known for their athletic outlook on life are increasingly succumbing to the worldwide obesity epidemic. Some reports say that soon the Australian people will become more overweight and obese than the American people.
The other direct cost incurred by obesity is that funeral parlours are now charging more for funerals of men and women who weigh more than a certain size. Due to the extra manpower required to lift the coffins as well as the extra energy expended in cremating the bodies the crematoriums often put up their prices. Obese people should also be aware that a number of airlines are also considering charging more for them to travel because they take up more room on the airline and may require more than one seat.
There are so many reasons why you should not be obese and you should not learn to live with obesity. Do something sooner rather than later so that you can live a normal and happier life and fulfil your true potential.
