A major reasons for overeating is stress. Individuals who have stressful jobs and stressful personal lives often overeat as a form of stress relief which obviously has negative consequences on their weight in the long term. You should be aware that stress could be causing you to overeat and also that the subsequent weight gain in itself might be aggravating the stress even more.

There are some simple tips you can follow to stop yourself releasing stress by overeating and which will be far more effective than stuffing your face with unhealthy food. The most effective stress reliever is a good workout! If you get the adrenaline pumping on the treadmill or by doing circuit training you will definitely not feel the need eat unhealthy food as much as you did before the workout. You’ll find that not only do you feel less stress but you will be thinking more clearly.
Stress in itself can be caused by the consuming of food which is low in nutritional benefits. Eating healthily and including a good mix of carbohydrates, protein and lots of fruit and vegetables in your diet will decrease the chances of you suffering from stress induced anxiety. A healthy diet will stimulate the production of the important stress relieving chemical serotonin in the brain.
Don’t allow yourself to get to hungry! Some people who are so busy and stressed fail to make time to eat and thus they become more nervous and edgy and this increases the chances of them making poor food choices at the end of the day. If you are stressed at the end of the day make sure that you do something proactive and positive to relieve stress before you eat. Maybe a hot bath or shower followed by fifteen minutes of listening to relaxing music will have a good effect on you.
Don’t let your eating habits be determined by your mood so that you can become the master of your weight and ultimately your destiny.
