One of the hardest aspects of eating healthily is to regulate portion size. It is so difficult to judge how much food goes on your plate and so tempting to pile up food especially when it tastes good. The book which is called The 9-Inch Diet argues that by simply buying 9in. diameter plates as opposed to larger 12in. plates which are the industry standard you can regulate your portion sizes far more effectively when you are eating at home. Mr. Bogusky said that over the last 30 years the size of regular plates has increased significantly from an average of about 8.5in. to 12in.
With men and women in America and the European Union eating far more than they used to plates have grown in size to keep up with the trend. If you look at antique plates you will see how they are considerably smaller. Restaurants are the biggest culprits with some having huge 14in. plates. In Europe plates are slightly smaller at 10in. on average compared to the American 12in.
By reducing your plate size therefore you could make a considerable impact on the amount of calories that you eat. Not only this but using a small fork means that you savour each mouthful for longer and enjoy the meal more.
