A warning has been issued by the Hong Kong Dept of Health concerning using a diet supplement called Slimming Kapsul which they tested recently. The clinical results showed that it contained a dangerous substance called spironolactone as well as the active ingredient [sibutramine] of the prescription medication Reductil.

The testing of the product Slimming Kapsul was done after a woman who had been using it was admitted into hospital suffering from psychosis. It is well known that Spironolactone which is sometimes used as a diuretic drug has many reported adverse events and side effects such as mental confusion, hyponatraemia, hyperkalaemia, drowsiness and gastrointestinal problems.
As always with these slimming supplements no mention was made of either of the powerful ingredients both of which are contraindicated for certain individuals. The manufacturers of this product could be facing a jail sentence and a hefty fine if they can be located but this is extremely unlikely as it was probably made in a factory well out of the reach of Hong Kong law enforcement authorities.
At Ukmedix News we could have told you right away that the product Slimming Kapsul was bound to contain something dangerous and illegal because we have seen how practically every single unlicensed/natural/traditional/herbal weight loss supplement is harmful to health.
At times we have been accused of exaggerating the problem of the dangers of unlicensed weight loss medications and supplements but the reality is that they have been known to kill in some cases and the woman previously mentioned who ended up in hospital with psychosis was lucky not to have suffered from permanent and more severe health problems. Her use of the Slimming Kapsul led her to be hospitalized for over two weeks despite being a normal and healthy 28 year-old.
The Hong Kong health authorities warned the public that they should not buy weight loss products unless they could be absolutely sure of the contents. At Ukmedix News we would go one step further and recommend that you should never use anything to lose weight unless it has been given to you by a doctor.
