The obesity epidemic in the United Kingdom is ruining millions of lives

At Ukmedix News we have previously published research which shows that overweight and obese individuals tend to earn less money than their normal weight colleagues and now new research released shows that the figures are even more significant than previously thought. The research which was undertaken by the Hospital Group shows that the majority of obese (BMI 30+) and severely obese (BMI 35+) individuals get by on between £10,000k and £15,000 annually.  Normal weight and overweight (BMI 25+) individuals on average earn twice as much as the previous group with salaries between £20,000 and £30,000 annually.

Shocking Figures Show The Poverty Of Obesity

The researchers said that as well as earning less money they are also more likely to suffer from diabetes, arthritis, back pain as well as a whole list of psychological problems such as clinical depression which is often due to the frustration of their condition and the stigmatisation that accompanies it.

The Hospital Group also noted that 22 percent of obese individuals in the UK said that their family had “hinted at embarrassment or concern” because of their weight and almost half obese individuals admitted that their weight had prevented them from taking part in fun activities with their children thus pointing to a lower quality of life.

Other statistics released showed that around 25 percent said that their sex lives have been affected negatively by their weight and almost 40 percent said that their ability to take part in a whole range of leisure activities was compromised at times.

No matter what anyone says, at Ukmedix News we believe that obesity is a horrible condition to live with and obese individuals really should make an effort to lose weight because the rewards of weight loss greatly outweigh any sacrifices.  The obesity epidemic in the United Kingdom is ruining millions of lives and the British government needs to do more to help people get healthy and lose weight.
