An American senator from Illinois is in big trouble after suggesting solutions to the United States obesity problem which were deemed to be offensive to overweight people and to the parents of overweight children.

His suggestion was that the parents of obese kids should have a $2,000 tax deduction removed as a form of punishment and sanction for allowing their children to overeat. State Senator Shane Cultra representing the community of Onarga was speaking at a debate which was discussing whether taxes should be placed on high calorie drinks to make them less accessible to children. He even suggested that poorer families who were on benefits should have them cut if their kids were obese.
Well, he definitely kicked up a storm because he was forced retract his comments and he said that they shouldn't be taken too seriously and that they were out of context. At Ukmedix News we reckon that that is a pretty weak argument because after all they were discussing childhood obesity so how could his comments be misconstrued?
The only relevant thing which he said was that parents need to take responsibility for the weight of their kids. It is no good punishing parents for having overweight children but instead clear guidelines, education and incentives should be given to help them keep their kids healthy.
At Ukmedix News we believe that educating parents about the dangers of fast food, and banning the advertising of it which is aimed at children should be the first action in the battle against childhood obesity in America. Fast food companies spend millions every single year trying to get very young children hooked on fast food which they then find difficult to give up.
Yes, Senator Cultra's comments were out of order but something needs to be done and it needs to be done fast, so wake up America and do something before it is too late and another generation of kids is condemned to obesity and all of its associated problems.
