Sauna dieters... Do you know what they are? Well, this is a phrase dreamt up by Ukmedix News to describe men and women who think that they can somehow shed body fat by sitting in a sauna and by doing nothing else. Unfortunately for them we have some bad news which is that the sauna is going to have very little effect on their weight.

There's no doubt about the fact that going to a sauna increases your heart rate and makes you burn off calories but it doesn't burn off nearly as many calories as going for a run or working out. In fact the majority of the weight loss associated with using a sauna is connected to the loss of bodily fluids through sweating. It is possible to think that you have lost a lot of weight after sitting in a sauna for an hour but in fact all you have done is dehydrate yourself and you will not have lost much fat at all.
Using a sauna should be thought of as a relaxation tool rather than a weight loss method. The best time to use a sauna is after a good workout when all your muscles are pumping and your lungs have exerted themselves. You need to make an extra special effort to drink lots of water if you go into the sauna after a workout.
A sauna should be just a tiny part of an overall weight loss effort. Being relaxed and focused can help you to sleep well, think clearly and to de-stress. Poor sleep, unclear thinking patterns and stress are all linked to higher rates of obesity. You should use your time in the sauna to think about ways of improving your weight loss efforts, making plans and coming up with ideas. The sauna should be a motivation tool for losing weight rather than a weight loss method in itself.
