At Ukmedix News we understand the positive properties of resveratrol which is present in large quantities in red wine and which many scientists credit with keeping French people healthy. An American company Sirtris is taking the properties of resveratrol one step further and has developed a new drug with a code name SRT1720 which is designed to copy exactly the positive benefits of resveratrol.

Resveratrol can fool the body into believing that food is not available and thus tricks the body into burning fat for energy. The new drug SRT1720 when tested on mice allowed them to eat fatty foods without putting on any weight. The researchers said that also when they tested their blood it appeared that SRT1720 was protecting them against diabetes too. The scientists also noted that the mice had more physical stamina and were therefore able to run greater distances.
Resveratrol and SRT1720 function by triggering a protein named SIRT1 which is responsible for regulating the supply of energy in the body. One of the research team Professor Johan Auwerx from the Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne based in Switzerland explained that the results clearly showed that the new drug reproduced the “positive metabolic effects” which were commonly attributed to resveratrol. However in this case the SRT1720 drug was more potent and selective in enhancing the metabolic factors.
However before you think that your weight problems are over Professor Auwerx explained that SRT1720 is probably going to take a further seven years before it can be available commercially. It is also worth remembering that many drugs fall on the wayside after clinical testing reveals that side effects are more risky than the perceived benefits. Ukmedix News nevertheless feels that this SRT1720 experimental weight loss drug could be extremely effective in helping and women lose weight in the future.
