High protein diets are often recommended by doctors

The Duke University Medical Center of America has been conducting research which shows that men and women who eat too much protein along with a high fat diet may end up with insulin resistance which can in turn lead to having severe weight problems.

Researchers Say Protein May Be A Cause Of Obesity

Over 140 people agreed to take part in this study which specifically measured their metabolic profiles. The researchers said that they were surprised when they examined the metabolomics of normal weight and obese participants because when they observed clusters of metabolites there were high levels of branched chain amino acids and their catabolites and not fatty acids and lipids as was expected.  This extremely complicated research was also confirmed by testing done on lab rats and should hopefully enable scientists to find out exactly why and how the metabolism changes with different diets.

High protein diets are often recommended by doctors and nutritionists as a way to lose weight however this new research could end showing that too much protein could end up becoming a part of the process which results in insulin resistance. As the study is still at an early stage the researchers were keen to stress that eating protein should not be considered to be a bad thing.

At Ukmedix News we believe that the important thing of any diet is that there is a healthy balance of different food groups and we will be reporting on the outcome on further research done in this area. You should be extremely wary of any diet which stresses that one food group should be completely eliminated from your eating patterns. This research and was supported financially by the National Institutes of Health and the pharmaceutical company GlaxoSmithKline and was published in the clinical journal Cell Metabolism.
