It sometimes amazes us at Ukmedix News how some people are not able to deal with the facts and realities about the growing problem of weight gain in the UK. Recently Ukmedix News came across a report released by the University of Aberdeen which claims that bad weather is responsible for making it much more difficult for dieters to lose pounds. This is just one of the many research reports that Ukmedix News has seen which tend to focus on abstract and peripheral issues connected with obesity instead of getting to the heart of the problem.

Report Claims Bad Weather Leads To Weight Gain

This particular report has been criticised by the Pop Idol winner Michelle McManus who is well known for her struggle with her weight and who at her peak she once weighed 23 stone. She said that reports like this which tried to claim that bad weather is responsible for obesity divert attention from the real issues that require to be dealt with.  She said that the reason she put on weight was because she went down to the chippie to much and that she did not eat healthily and get exercise.

The University of Aberdeen research claims that the lower amounts of Vitamin D found in obese people is statistically significant and should merit further study. The low levels of this vitamin were put down to the fact that the obese people had lower levels of exposure to sunlight, which is probably also connected to a lower level of physical activity.

Many individuals who are overweight say that they have a “fat gene” yet no scientific research has conclusively proven the existence of this particular gene and yet around ten percent of obese people claim that they have this gene.

Michelle McManus made the point that America which is the world’s fattest nation has huge amounts of sunlight and therefore the idea that obesity was connected to bad weather and low levels of Vitamin D was flawed. It should be noted that the people of the sunny islands of Greece are among the fattest in Europe and also that scorching hot Mexico has a severe problem with obesity.
