Reading Ukmedix News could make you overweight!! A new survey done by the Hong Kong Chinese University shows a direct correlation between those students who spend a long time looking at the internet and the likelihood of being overweight.

The results of the study showed that 8.5% of those students who used the internet alot were overweight compared to less than 4% of those students who were considered to be light internet users. More than 2,000 students were interviewed for this survey and it was seen that almost 15% of 1st year students spent over four hours a day online.
Interestingly, over 10% of the heavy internet users said that they often skipped meals whereas only 2% of the light internet users said they did the same. Heavy internet users also said that they often missed classes and overslept.
This study is similar to other studies done which show that children who spend a long time in front of television tend to suffer from higher rates of obesity. While using the internet may well seem to be a busy and stimulating activity it does not require much physical exertion and therefore calories are not being burned. It is important that people who spend longer hours in front of computers or TV screens make a concerted effort to get regular exercise to compensate for their inactivity.
With millions of people in developed countries now doing desk jobs which require very little movement obesity is on the rise. Professional people who work at a desk all day should sign up to a gym to burn off calories at the end of the day.
In the same way that you should monitor your eating habits on a daily basis you should also make sure that you monitor your exercise. Simple things like walking for ten minutes every day to work instead of getting the bus or using the stairs instead of the lift can actually make the difference between weight loss and weight gain in the long-term.
