Often Used Excuses To Stop Exercising

So what’s your excuse?! It is amazing what reasons people will come up with to get out of doing their daily exercise. Here are a few classics which have been used time and time again to justify being a couch potato.

Probably the most obvious one is the, ‘I’m just too busy to exercise’. This is a very revealing excuse because it shows that your exercise is a very low priority in your life. If you are serious about keeping in shape like anything else in life you need to make it a priority and schedule it into your diary in the same way that you would schedule an important meeting. You’ll also find that by getting regular exercise you will boost your energy levels which in turn will make you more productive. So simply by going to the gym and losing time from the office you may in fact end up by getting more work done.
Another big excuse is the, ‘It’s so boring’. Exercise can be dull but it is up to you to make it exciting and something to look forward to. There are lots of ways of making your exercise enjoyable mentally such as by participating in team sports which often have group training sessions, playing tennis or squash or simply by getting a gym buddy to work out with. Boring exercise is not sustainable in the long term and therefore do something about the boredom factor sooner rather than later.
At Ukmedix we often hear the ‘I’m too old’ excuse which again is a complete nonstarter with us. There is absolutely no reason why your age should be a factor in not getting exercise and in fact your body needs exercise even more as you get older to keep it in tiptop condition. Even if you have never exercised in your life starting at any age with a gentle workout daily will improve your health, improve your mobility and improve your quality of life overall. [It will even improve your sex life!]
‘I’m too Fat’ is another one that people use to justify staying at home and watching TV. Apart from the obvious issue that overweight people need the gym more than normal weight people, since when does being overweight prevent you from moving around? At Ukmedix News we understand and appreciate that overweight people feel embarrassed and self conscious at the gym sometimes but they should close their eyes and focus on the amount of times that their weight has humiliated them and understand that being in the gym is a way to prevent that happening again.
Keep it simple, find something you enjoy doing, do it regularly, focus on the benefits of exercise and you’ll find that your workout is something that you look forward to and something you can’t live without.
