Here we go again! Health experts having recently examined statistics regarding obesity have claimed that the northeast of England is sitting on a ‘time bomb’. The obesity experts said that many more children are now overweight before they even get to primary school which is an indicator of lifelong obesity problems.

The statistics show that 25 percent of primary school children are either overweight or obese when they start school and that by the time they leave the figure is well over 30 percent. The information had been collected as part of the Department of Health initiative to have every single child weighed and measured every year at school. This policy has not been without its opponents as many people said that it would cause and encourage bullying and teasing of those overweight pupils.
The chairman of the North Eastern British Medical Association, Dr George Rae blamed modern lifestyles on this surge in obesity and pointed out that it would lead to a financial burden on the National Health Service and therefore ultimately the taxpayer.
At Ukmedix News we receive reports like this on a weekly basis which show that obesity is on the increase all over the United Kingdom not only in young children but also in every single age group there is. It seems that government experts spend their whole time recording obesity data but do very little about the problem itself.
One thing that we can tell all the government health experts is that over the next few years they will definitely see more increases in the number of obese individuals in the UK unless they do something about it! The effort going into collecting obesity data should be converted into legislating and educating to protect children and adults from obesity. For many children it is extremely difficult to eat healthily because of the huge amount of fast food which is promoted to them.
Fast food restaurants open near schools and adverts are constantly pushing them to eat the junk that they produce. It becomes almost impossible for children not to eat fast food when social networks work around them. The British government needs to legislate to prevent unhealthy food being promoted to children and the time to do it is now!
Enough talk and more action please Gordon Brown.
