Obesity, The UK Child Killer

advertising is still being targeted at impressionable children
Fact: The UK is facing a chronic childhood obesity problem. Fact: Obese children with unhealthy eating habits tend to stay that way for the rest of their lives. Fact: Obesity causes illnesses such as heart disease and cancer. Fact: The UK fast food companies spend millions of pounds promoting their unhealthy products directly at children.

obesity, the uk child killer

What makes us so angry at Ukmedix News is that the facts are there for everybody to see and yet UK politicians fail to legislate to prevent the promotion of fast food products to children. The fast food companies are fully aware that promoting their products to children is the best way to make sure that they have customers in the long term. They spend a huge amount on sponsoring toys and games connected with very popular children's films and take up all the advertising spots after school and on Saturday morning when they know that young children will be watching.

We like to think of freedom of speech in the United Kingdom, we believe that there should be no legislation to prevent food products from being advertised because after all it's a free world, but try and tell that to a 14 year old girl who thinks it is normal to eat junk food all week and who is bullied and laughed at because of her weight. Try and explain that to the thousands of people who suffer obesity related cancer and who live with chronic pain and discomfort that being obese brings on.

If somebody had to suggest smoking advertising directed at children they would be vilified, but junk food and obesity are not much less harmful. Obesity is now the second most preventable cause of death in the United Kingdom after smoking and yet advertising is still being targeted at impressionable children in those formative years when they need to be taught healthy eating habits for long term health.

Any form of fast food advertising and promotion directed at children needs to be banned right now. It is costing the UK billion in lost productivity and health care costs as well as causing a huge social and emotional problem all over the nation.

excelent article! I could not agree with you more, you have a right to be angry about it and so do the British taxpayers who are having to pay for the medical consequences. Why doesn't our prime minister do something about it?????
