A new study shows that as well as all the other obesity related illnesses, children who are obese are much more probable to suffer from back and spine problems. The research which was done in the US looked at almost 190 young individuals between the ages of twelve and twenty who suffered from back pain and noted that over half of them [56%] were suffering from some sort of abnormalities of the lumbar spine.

By examining spinal MRIs for all of the volunteers they noted that those that had BMI’s larger than the 75th percentile normal for their age were significantly more likely to have abnormal readings. In fact 68.5 percent of them suffered from back problems whereas all of the others who had a healthy weight had normal spinal MRI results. The lead author of the study Dr Judah Burns at the Children's Hospital at Montefiore based in New York City explained that the findings showed a “strong relationship” between a high BMI in children and young people and the likelihood of suffering from lumbar disc problems. The research was presented at a recent meeting of the American Radiological Society.
What we know at Ukmedix News is that practically every single illness or medical condition known to man is either aggravated or more likely to be brought on by obesity. If for example you have a family history of back problems and you are obese it is no good blaming your family’s medical history when you start to suffer from a painful back because you would have only compounded the problem by not dealing with your weight first.
We are aware of how hard it is to lose weight but there’s no point deluding yourself about the fact that the real reason why you are in pain is because of your weight.
Weight loss is a struggle but it is definitely worth the return on the investment. Get on it!
