Obesity Doubles Baby Deaths

infant deaths for obese women were twice what they expected them to be
New evidence about the dangers of entering into motherhood suffering from obesity has been published by the Centre for Maternal and Child Enquiries. According to the Perinatal Mortality 2009 report 10% of mothers who had a stillborn child or whose infants died when in the neonatal period had BMI's of 35 or greater. Obesity is defined as having a BMI of 30 plus.

The report said that the levels of infant deaths for obese women were twice what they expected them to be and twice the average rate in the United Kingdom.

The president of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, Dr Tony Falconer said that this research underlined why it was "vitally important" for healthy lifestyles to be encouraged at all times.  He said that women should get information on "diet, nutrition and exercise" from their doctors.

Other research which we previously published at Ukmedix News shows that overweight women are more likely to give birth to underweight babies as well as end up having children with greater health problems. The best gift a mother could ever give her child would be to make an extra effort to be healthy and eat healthily before during and after pregnancy.

It is often very difficult to change from an unhealthy lifestyle to a healthy one but many women who are trying to get pregnant quit smoking, take up exercise and make a pledge to lose weight. Not only is it good for them but it will have a significant impact on the health of their children. We have always argued at Ukmedix News that getting healthy is a virtuous circle which comes with literally hundreds of different benefits.

don't look at losing weight as something which is going to restrict you from living the life you want to live but as something which will set you free, open doors and opportunities and ultimately enhance not only your life but the life of your children.
