More research has been released which shows that obesity can jeopardize the lives of Americans should they find themselves in a car crash. This latest study shows that obesity increases the likelihood of death due to car accidents by a whopping 56 percent.

The study that was undertaken by Professor Jehle from the University of Buffalo School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences has highlighted that cars are designed to protect normal weight individuals and do not make allowances for obese passengers. In fact Professor Jehle who also works at the Erie County Medical Center said that they had made contact with car manufacturers to suggest that safety testing should include the use of obese crash dummies.
With around 1/3 of all Americans falling into the category of obesity, improving safety for obese passengers would stop thousands of deaths every year. However there is likely to be a lot of opposition from car manufacturers who would argue that the cost of protecting obese passengers would drive up the price of every car and others who would argue that instead of changing safety profiles in cars, obese people should be warned that their size puts them in greater danger and that this could be an incentive for them to lose weight.
The researchers manage to collect the data on the car crashes using the Fatality Analysis Reporting System database which looks that not only car crashes but also crashes involving vans, trucks and SUVs. They also observed that people who were underweight actually had a better chance of survival than normal weight individuals.
Being overweight increases the chances of hundreds of different at illnesses and health problems. From erectile dysfunction to heart attacks to cancer and in fact practically every single illness known to man. You must never get complacent about your obesity and you must try and do something about it every single day.
