The number of obese children and adults has only risen...

Ukmedix News has been studying a new report that was ordered by the Dept of Trade and Industry to look at the challenges facing the UK over the next 50 years which has come up with the terrifying statistic that over 50% of all UK citizens will be obese in or before 25 years have passed.

New Report Says Half Of UK Heading To Obesity

The report noted that if people continue to eat like they are doing now and currently unhealthy lifestyle trends continue there will be no respite in the ever increasing obesity figures. The report also highlighted that this increase in obesity will also result in an increase in obesity levels and a situation where many people will suffer from cardio problems, diabetes, strokes and many different types of cancer.

The report that was compiled by an eminent epidemiologist, Professor Klim McPherson from Oxford University should have an impact on the health policies of the government and make them understand that more needs to be done to reduce obesity all over the UK. While the UK government has declared a war on ‘obesity’ it is clear that its policies have not worked and the number of obese children and adults has only risen since the start of anti obesity campaigns.

At present it is reckoned that the cost to the nation of treating obesity in the National Health Service is around £2bn annually. Diabetes is on the rise greatly and almost 2 million people suffer from diabetes in the UK. Diabetes can cause many other health complications like strokes, blindness or the need to amputate a limb. The report noted that for the 1st time in a very long period the UK’s life expectancy may start to fall because of obesity related illness.
To give you an idea of the severity of the problem you only need to be remember that only 8% of UK adults had a BMI of 30 or over in 1980 and now that figure has shot up to 23%!
