Loews Hotel Chain has taken a big step in being the first hotel chain in the world to guarantee that the will not serve trans fat in any of their establishments or in-house restaurants. All of the hotels belonging to this chain are based in the United States and the management has promised to remove items with trans fat from even the mini bars that are in individual rooms by the beginning of June 2007.
The management has set a plan in motion that will slowly remove the trans fat from different parts of the hotel chain from and the food that it serves. By the beginning of February the trans fat in its French fries will be gone and by the 1st of April they say that salad dressings as well as frozen foods and pastries will be trans fat free. Lastly the management will get the trans fats out of waffles and pancakes to get the whole hotel chain trans fat free.
New York City recently passed legislation soon to be implemented that will ensure that no restaurants in the Big Apple will be allowed to serve food with trans fat and the rest of America is likely to catch on to this latest health craze. Some businesses are responding to the likely changes before they happen and this will not only give them good publicity but also improve the health of the nation in the long term. Trans fat is known to be the most artery-clogging type of fat and is mainly found as a by-product of artificially hydrogenated vegetable oil.
Loews Hotel Chain was being roundly praised by doctors and nutritionists for their foresighted move and there are hopes that other hotel and restaurant chains will follow suit so that one day America can be trans fat free and with their example the same could catch on in the UK and the European Union.
