A fascinating research project done in Australia shows that about a third of illnesses and death in the country is a result of unhealthy living and bad habits. The research that was undertaken at the University of Queensland noted among other things that the incidence of cancer in Australia was now higher than the incidence of heart disease.

The largest causes of health problems were found to be smoking, alcohol in excess, lack of exercise and a bad and unhealthy diet and all of these things are purely lifestyle choices according to the researchers. For example the researchers estimated that 70 percent of heart disease could be prevented if people lived more healthily and that the number of diabetics would fall by 60 percent is the nation started to take exercise and diet more seriously.
The researchers estimated that the financial cost of health care to the country could be reduced by about 1/3 if people stop harming themselves with unhealthy lifestyle choices. The lead author of this health report said that if the medical authorities wanted to save money on health care they should invest in campaigns to educate people about what will make them unhealthy and how to reduce the chances of going to hospital with serious illnesses.
At Ukmedix News we have been campaigning for some time and arguing that the UK government needs to invest more money in quality education campaigns to help people get more information about good nutrition and healthy eating. We have seen many research projects regarding obesity and without a doubt good education is essential. It is no good preaching to people about diet and nutrition if they do not know what you are speaking about. If you educate people properly about how to control their weight you empower them to make sensible lifestyle choices.
