Eating Fruit And Fibre For Weight Loss

Written by Stuart Stevens | Tuesday, 11 July 2006

There are some secrets to eating well and staying slim and fit and the June ussue of the Journal of the American Dietetic Association says that if you follow the two F’s rule you will have a much greater chance of not being overweight or obese. The 2 F's stand for Fruit and Fibre and nutritionists can show that people who are slim tend to eat more Fruit and Fiber than overweight and obese people.

This doesn't mean that you can just go and binge on anything provided that you eat lots of the 2 F's but it it important to note these statistics that show that a diet with over average levels of fibre, complex carbohydrates and fruit is linked with normal body weight and good BMI levels. If you find yourself overweight or obese think about the levels of fibre and fruit in your diet and possibly adjust your diet to accomodate them more. Eating complex carbohydrates like whole grains, vegetables and beans can also be of great help.

The ADA noted that overweight and obese people tended to eat on average one extra meat meal daily and one less fruit serving daily when compared to slim people. While obese and overweight people often eat the same amount of calories compared to their thinner friends they tend to get their share of calories from fat whereas other get the calories from fibre and complex carbohydrates.

The study shows that where you get the caories from can be important for weight loss and that calorie intake levels can be kept at normal levels provided you eat the right things which include fibre and fruit. It may be that the fibre is very filling and so people don't feel the urge to eat so much and many people say that fruit is very satisfying to eat too and takes away hunger pangs.
