Diabetes is an extremely unpleasant illness to have to live with...

A worrying statistic that we recently came across at Ukmedix News is that eighteen year old males who have a BMI of between of between 30 and 35 thus making them clinically obese have a 50 percent chance of suffering from diabetes sometime later on in life. The statistics also show that in the instance of 18 year old women the problem is even more severe. Ukmedix News came across these statistics after reading about them in a clinical journal called Diabetes Care which published a survey that was done called the National Health Interview Survey that looked at over than three-quarters of a million people over seven years.

Diabetes Statistics Extremely High For Obese Children

The researchers also noted that if the eighteen-year-olds but had a BMI of more than 35 the chances of them getting diabetes in the future was a massive 70 percent. It is not just obese people who are getting diabetes but even overweight people who have a BMI of between 25 & 30 and for this category of eighteen-year-olds they still have a 1/3 chance of getting the very serious blood sugar and insulin problem.

Diabetes is an extremely unpleasant illness to have to live with. It affects your quality of life greatly as you constantly have to monitor your blood sugar and inject yourself with insulin. People who are diabetic also tend to have low levels of energy and have to be extremely careful about what they eat.

This report highlights the responsibilities that parents have to teach their children good eating habits. If children are obese at the age of 18 they are statistically very likely to remain obese for the rest of their lives and research has shown that parents who educate their children carefully about what is beneficial for them to eat tend to have healthier children in the long run.
