Obesity is not just a chronic illness but is in fact a serious social problem which has got out of hand in many developed nations and because of the big numbers of obese individuals around they are becoming a group to be reckoned with.

What we mean by this is that there's a strong lobby to accept obese people for the way they are and to legislate so that they cannot be discriminated against and even go as far as to make sure that public places are accessible for obese individuals. This would mean that restaurants for example would have to provide chairs of a size for all people and that all public buildings would have to be designed for extremely large people rather than the average size person.
This argument obviously is extremely controversial especially as many normal weight people perceive obese people as lazy overeaters who can't be bothered to do anything about their weight. They feel that no allowances should ever be made for obesity and that it is unfair that obese people are already costing the state more in health care and lost productivity. There is another argument as to why obesity should never be accepted as normal and that revolves around the fact that if it becomes socially acceptable to be obese, men and women will make far less of an effort to eat healthily and get exercise. So by accepting obesity you could be dramatically increasing the problem.
In some parts of America where there are very high rates of obesity, obese individuals feel relaxed and content because they don't stick out of the crowd. Ukmedix News has published other research which shows that hanging out with obese people can make you more likely to overeat yourself and that hanging out with skinny healthy people can also influence you to be like them. When it comes to eating, exercise and healthy living peer pressure counts for a lot.
The most important reason why we feel at Ukmedix News that obesity should never be accepted is because of the huge number of health risks associated with it and the serious detrimental effect it has on quality of life.
