Entering the gym for the first time can be a humiliating experience for an obese person and that is why so many obese people do not take that first step. Women find it even more humiliating as they see men, [or they think they see men] eyeing them up and they see other women in perfect shape strutting past with confident smiles making them feel even more inadequate.

Well, we had a big discussions about this in the newsroom the other day and one of the girls (let’s call her Jane) who is now happily slim and trim, said that when she first went to the gym, [she once weighed fourteen stone], she was pretty embarrassed but she consoled herself with the fact that what mattered was not what other people thought about her but what she thought of herself and she wasn’t going to let any perceptions from other people stop her from being the way she wanted to be.
At Ukmedix News we know that losing weight is not easy and that it needs not only a physical commitment but also a mental commitment. Jane also said that when she was feeling uncomfortable she would just remember how uncomfortable she felt on the beach when she was overweight and how she didn’t want to feel like that anymore, and that working out in the gym was not nearly as embarrassing as trying to cover up a lot of excess weight wearing a bikini.
In a funny sort of way some of us said that we had a lot more respect and we admired those obese people we saw huffing and puffing away in the gym and who just got on with the exercise compared to those slim and trim people who were preening themselves in front of the mirrors and who were feeling super confident about their shape and muscles.
Probably the worst time to be in the gym is when you just start to work out as not only are you out of shape but also you don’t know how to utilise some of the machines and you stand out as like a sore thumb as a novice beginner. If you have never been to a gym before and you decide to begin, it is very important that you do your first few sessions with a proper trained instructor. Not only will the instructor who takes you around the gym show you how to use the machines properly but he or if she should also make sure that you don’t do anything that could hurt you. The gym instructor should make sure that you do exercise which is good for you and should educate you about the different exercises and how they benefit you.
