A new weight loss pill which works differently to the weight loss drugs Reductil and Xenical will be on sale in British pharmacies soon. The tablet works by expanding in the stomach so that a feeling of satiety is produced and thus you eat less during meals. It is designed to be taken about half an hour before eating and it literally swells up in your stomach like a balloon which therefore reduces your appetite.

The tablet which is called Appesat creates the effect of another weight loss remedy called a gastric balloon which is a surgically implanted saline balloon. Obviously it is a lot easier to use the Appesat pill which can be simply swallowed with water rather than having invasive surgery and for this reason it may be popular when it is launched.

The Appesat pill stays in the stomach for a few hours before it is broken down by the natural digestive process and is then passed out of the body in the normal way. One of the other advantages of Appesat is that it is not actually classified as a weight loss medication because nothing is actually absorbed into the body.  Appesat is produced from a type of seaweed called ‘laminaria digitata’ which is found on the Atlantic coast in France and which is known to swell up when mixed with water.

Clinical testing done with the Appesat tablets show that they are effective in helping individuals lose weight and that in many cases patients got used to eating smaller amounts at meals and therefore were able to stop taking the Appesat after a certain time. Researchers said that Appesat was effective in retraining people to eat smaller portions.

This tablet could be useful for men and women who are not able to use the very effective Reductil drug or the Xenical drug for medical reasons. Ukmedix News will be doing more research on the Appesat pill.
