Negative Bodybuilder Perceptions

You have to find something which works for you so you must keep your mind open

There is a very negative perception of people who spend an huge amount of time at the gym building up muscle.  It is true that bodybuilders take themselves a little bit too seriously sometimes and walk around with an aggressive self satisfied stance which puts most people off lifting weights completely. Rumours abound that bodybuilders take anabolic steroids and couldn’t have developed their body mass without the help of dangerous concoctions and that in any case all their muscle will eventually turned to fat as they get older. (This is actually physically impossible as one type of body tissue can’t just become another type.)

Negative Bodybuilder Perceptions

Anyway just because there is a little truth in what people say about the bodybuilders doesn’t mean that there is a reason for you not to go to the gym and use weights. Lifting heavy weights can actually be very good for you and just as effective if not more effective then regular cardio exercise. Some individuals find running on a treadmill extremely boring and gain far more satisfaction out of lifting moderately heavy weights with very short intervals of rest between each set. This means that as well as using the muscle to maximum capacity you also gain significant cardio benefits as you are constantly out of breath and your heartbeat is at an elevated level.

Doing weights improves the way that you stand making you appear thinner and more confident. Not only this but the extra muscle mass that you gain requires more calories to be burnt to function throughout he day.  Some people say doing weights releases stress and gets them thinking clearly at the end of the day much more so than simple cardio exercise.

You have to find something which works for you so you must keep your mind open when you go to the gym and talk to an instructor and ask him to put a program together for you. You may find that all the negative perceptions you had about those people who lift heavy weights were wrong!

10lbs of fat is twice the volume of 10lbs of muscle! So the question is would I prefere muscle or fat????

Depends where the fat/muscle is Barbie? I'd like a bit of fat on your chest and bum though... Are you single by the way?
