Modern Diets Are Killing The Mexicans

The Mexican people in the space of the last 20 years have gone from a group of healthy individuals to among the unhealthiest citizens in the world.

Their diet once consisted of an abundance of fresh fruit and vegetables, healthy beans and natural fibre, protein in the form of lean meats such as chicken and fish and all cooked in big earthenware pots slowly to release natural flavours and goodness.
Now their diet has been overrun by modernisation and on every corner in Mexico in towns and cities you see KFC, McDonald’s, Burger King, Taco Bell and Pizza Hut. The Mexican people have shunned their traditional diets and now subsist on unhealthy fried junk food.
This trend is typical of nations that suddenly start to become economically strong and thus lifestyles change very rapidly. Many of the poorer Mexican people are uneducated about nutrition and health and therefore are unable to properly understand the dangers of eating fast food and the importance of healthy natural food.
Not only this, but fast food is very cheap and accessible while the healthy Mexican diet involves a lot of preparation and time consuming cooking. Modern lifestyles which are taking over in Mexico leave less time for women to source healthy ingredients and cook nutritiously.
Mexico is now the second most obese nation in the world after America and many people blame the North American Free Trade Agreement which was signed in 1994 and which started the invasion of American eating habits into Mexico. The old fashioned market stall restaurants serving healthy food are on the way out and globalisation with its time and cost cutting formulas is on the way in.
The Mexican Health Ministry recently issued statistics that show that 25 percent of Mexican children between the ages of five and eleven are morbidly obese which means that they have a BMI of 40 plus. Unless something is done fast in Mexico to stop this trend the Mexican people will soon overtake America as the world’s fattest nation.
With health care standards not as high in Mexico as in America, this obesity will kill far more people and result in a poorer quality of life for hundreds of thousands of Mexican people.
Politicians are waking up to this and saying that something needs to be done. Unfortunately from our experience that Ukmedix News we doubt that they will do anything because of the financial might that the fast food and processed food industry has in Mexico, and even if they do manage to do something it is likely to be too little too late.
