If you ever need proof that the modelling industry in the UK has a negative perception of normally healthy people you need look no further than at Leah Green who has just won the title of Miss England and who will be representing her country in the Miss World competition. Despite the fact that Ms Green is stunningly and strikingly beautiful, is 5ft 10in and has perfect posture and poise she has been turned down by all modelling agencies because they say that she is overweight and that she needed to work on trying to achieve “the gaunt look”.

In recent years there have been many complaints that models on the catwalk are too thin and therefore giving out a ridiculously unhealthy perception of what women need to look like in order to be beautiful. Ms Green said that she hoped that if she won the Miss World competition she would be a role model for voluptuous women with curves and that she could send out a message that it was not necessary to be size zero in order to be beautiful.
Ukmedix News is aware of many cases where girls are put under a great deal of pressure to lose weight in order to retain their modeling contracts when in fact their weights are perfectly normal. A number of actresses and models have spoken out against the modeling industry and say that it must encourage larger and healthier looking women to model on the catwalk.
Kate Winslet, Beyonce and Scarlett Johanssen have all said that the present obsession with unhealthy looking girls is sending out an extremely bad signal to young impressionable women who are often sensitive about their weight. The extreme media pressure to lose weight has been known to cause eating disorders in some women such as anorexia and bulimia.
