Michelle Obama Gets Results With WalMart

fast food adverts at children should be legislated into a form of child abuse

There may be a little glimmer of hope coming from America in dealing with its chronic obesity problem in that the nation's largest retailer Wal-Mart has made a pledge to improve the quality of many of its processed foodstuffs. At Ukmedix News we have often argued that unless the big food manufacturers and processers begin to cooperate with government initiatives to make America healthier, educating people about healthy food and exercise is all a waste of time.

Wal-Mart has agreed to a five year plan which will mean that thousands of its food products will contain lower amounts of salt, sugar and fat and on top of this they have pledged to reduce pricing on fruit and vegetables. Interestingly this initiative was the result of the healthy eating drive being led by America's First Lady, Michelle Obama who has put the problem of childhood obesity at the top of her agenda. While we don't want to be cynical and negative about this new initiative we feel that unless Michelle Obama continues to pressurize and threaten food companies all over America, especially fast food manufacturers the American people will only get fatter.

Michelle Obama should speak to her husband Barack about the possibility of tax breaks for companies who promote healthy food and even a penalizing tax for those companies who continue to make unhealthy products at the expense of the nation's health.

Many people argue that the government should have no say in regulating what people eat, but the sad fact of the matter is that children are being brainwashed into eating unhealthy foodstuffs which they find extremely difficult to give up as they get older and which imprisons them to a life of obesity and obesity related disease. That's hardly freedom of choice and liberty is it?

Children should not be subjected to any form of unhealthy food advertising and fast food adverts directed at children should be legislated into a form of child abuse.

Good for you Michelle Obama for trying! I hope mothers will listen to what you have to say and do something about the way they are feeding their children. And good for you Walmart for starting the trend.
