Michael Phelps Not Such A Big Eater After All

You might remember the news article published by Ukmedix News a few months ago which commented incredulously on the fact that the Olympic swimming legend Michael Phelps was reported to be consuming a diet on training days of a whopping 12,000 calories. It was stated that he could consume a massive kilo of pasta everyday as well as pizza and other calorie laden foods. The reason he didn’t put on weight was because of the six hours of intensive training which he put himself through every single day which burned off the excess calories.

It now appears however that following on from an interview done on the CBS show ‘60 Minutes’ that this is not quite the case. He says that all this speculation about his 12,000 calories a day diet is in fact exaggerated and that he never actually eats that much. Interestingly however he did confess to having put on a little bit of weight and he now weighs 205lb. which is heavier than he has ever been before. It is likely that because he has not been training as hard as he did before the Olympics he is not burning off as many calories as previously. Because he is much fitter and stronger than a normal person he will burn off more calories even if he does no exercise all day.
Whatever the case, if you train extremely hard you need to eat more than you would normally. Your body also needs a lot of rest and getting a lot of sleep should be very much part of a healthy eating routine. People who train hard in the gym should remember that their muscles grow and the fat is burnt not actually when they are working out but when they are at a relaxed stage and their body is recovering.

You need to build up and have toned muscles so that your body can burn the calories. You should try heavier weights to get yourself in shape. Having big muscles means that you burn calories even when you are not in the gym... Think about that eh!
